Inspired by so many friends’ trips to Mexico over the last few years and in need of some winter sun, Henry and I headed off to Mexico at the end of last year. We were craving fresh nourishing food, a lot of laziness and extreme relaxation.
After much research, picture perfect and award winning Nizuc in Cancun hit the nail on the head. Have a little scroll for some of my favourite photo memories…
The panoramic morning views, perfect for a spot of reading and daydreaming.
Beautifully ripe local fruits. Allow a few hours to gently make your way around the breakfast buffet. My feast usually included a herby scramble with garlic fried beans and just a few drops of the habanero chilli sauce and then to finish off, a hot spiced chocolate with cacao and cinnamon – so Mexican!
A little peaceful yoga in my own courtyard garden. For some serious pampering, I headed for an afternoon at the spa for a spot of hydrotherapy and Mayan-inspired treatments including a most relaxing foot rub and special stone back massage.
My signature lunch order – a fresh young coconut, mixed seafood ceviche alongside some guacamole and salsa. Served right on the beach, siesta optional.
Supper at Indochine with coconut soups, green papaya salads and local fish with tamarind and chilli. Our other favourite restaurant, Ramona, serves modern Mexican like octopus with a quinoa and amaranth salad and pineapple puree alongside live folk music.
At the end of each day, a tough choice between paddle boarding or kayaking then sunset margaritas at the infinity pool.
